DIE BLUTHOCHZEIT is a tragic lyric opera by the prominent 20th-century German composer Wolfgang Fortner. The opera--whose the title translates as "the blood wedding"--was composed towards the end of Fortner's career, in 1957, and was based on texts by Federico Garcia Lorca. This live performance of this most moving of the composer's works took place at Wurttembergische Staatsoper, Stuttgart, in 1964. Renowned soprano Amy Schlemm performs alongside an esteemed cast that includes Martha Modl, Margarethe Bence, Hans-Gunter Nocker, and Hetty Plumacher.
