HARMONY OF VOICES was formed in the autumn of 2003 and rapidly established itself as one of the most exciting vocal ensembles in Sweden. The ensemble is made up of singers who also maintain solo singing careers in Sweden or abroad. The starting point for the ensemble lies in the tradition of chamber music with the solo voice in harmony with other voices and with instruments. The repertoire is concentrated on Early Music and the ensemble’s capacity to combine historical authenticity with creative interpretation has won it considerable renown. The ensemble collaborates regularly with the leading authentic instrument early music bands in Sweden, notably the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble and the Stockholm Baroque Orchestra. Harmony of Voices also performs contemporary music and this has led to the ensemble premičring a number of works specially composed for the group. Harmony of Voices was the Swedish Radio’s “artist in residence” in 2004–2005. Their first CD, devoted to music by Charpentier (PRCD 2031), was warmly received both in Sweden and abroad and was nominated for a Swedish “Grammis” in 2004. FREDRIK MALMBERG, CONDUCTOR AND ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF THE ENSEMBLE, is one of the most sought-after of choral conductors in Sweden today. He has also appeared at various venues in Europe as well as in Asia and the Middle East and has undertaken a considerable number of radio and CD productions. He has concentrated principally on Baroque repertoire, but besides Early Music, Fredrik Malmberg has a special interest in contemporary music. He also teaches music and was a lecturer at the Malmö Academy of Music from 1993 to 2000 as well as giving master classes in Sweden and abroad.
