Lena Horne - singer, star of stage and screen and all round American icon - appears on this Vocalion release. This is the reissue of her superb 1976 RCA album 'Lena - A New Album', which features her singing timeless standards from the American songbook accompanied by the impeccable orchestrations of Light Music legend Robert Farnon. Recorded at London's Olympic Studios in 1976, Lena is accompanied by an all-star cast of British jazz/session musicians - including Gordon Beck, Chris Laurence and David Snell - and full orchestra through numbers such as 'I've Got The World On A String', 'My Ship', and 'Someone To Watch Over Me'. As if that were not enough, American saxophonist Phil Woods is heard throughout, enhancing proceedings with his supple and literate improvisations.
